Priorat is a small, dynamic wine region in Catalonia, north-eastern Spain, whose intense, full-bodied red wines have shot to fame in the past few decades. The classic Priorat wine is made from old-vine Garnacha and Cariñena, and has concentrated aromas of licorice, tar and brandied cherries.

Medium red. Somewhat wild smoky aromas of cherry, dried red berries and cured meat. Supple and sweet, offering fresh raspberry and cherry flavors and a hint of medicinal herbs. The sweetness carries through a persistent, gently chewy finish. I like the interplay of fruit and muskiness here.
